Creating a Profitable Online Store

You have just released your new product, had a big grand opening party, and made your first buck. Now what? What’s missing? …an online store. First, do you even have a website? If not then you should stop reading this article and have one made. But, for those of you who do, an online store is a great way to not only increase sales, but to spread awareness of your company and product. You can set up an online store with packages from your Web Host or purchase other software programs to do so. Here are some basic steps you need to take to start a successful online store:

Online Shopping Cart. This is obvious, but which shopping cart to choose takes a little more effort. You can either pay your Web Host for the shopping cart service they offer or you can buy software from an outside company. Software will be more expensive upfront and may be better than the shopping cart offered by your Web Host; it all depends on the Host. Most hosts will have a shopping cart/Hosting plan package that will save you money. The safest route to take is using your Web Hosts services, as long as you find their customer support to be reliable.

SEO. You want people to come to your site, otherwise, how are you going to make a sale? Through keyword optimization and search engine submission your site will more likely be found on major search engines such as Google and Yahoo. Most online purchases are a result of search engine activity. SEO options offered by Web Hosts will analyze your website for keyword phrases and spiderability (How easy it is for search engines to search your site and rank you higher). The higher to the top of the page on Google, the higher your sales will be.

SSL Certificate. A safe and secure website is on the mind of most consumers when making online purchases with a credit card. That is why having a SSL certificate is important. An SSL Certificate encrypts data so that it is safe from being seen by a third party.

These are just three basic steps to increase your sales with an online store. When you start your online store use it as a talking point. Let people know it’s there for them to use. If people like your product they will tell friends, who will tell more friends and so on. An online store is an easy way to expand your business further than you could have imagined.
