Do you want your designs for poster printing to look old? There are a few good ways to do this that the usual poster templates out there cannot achieve. I will share with you some of these good ways that have been effective in the past. So ready the mouse and that “ctrl +c” and read on through this small guide on how to make your posters look old.
Research Or Examples
First, you have to know the proper design styles of the era you want to emulate. For example, if you want kind of a western type of poster design, then you have to research for the typical look of western posters. See what colors they used, the sizes, the wordings and other design aspects. You can try a simple search on the Internet to look for information. Make sure to do an image search as well in your search engine to make researching for old style poster designs easier. This should help make your posters look more authentic for the time period that you want.
Use Old Style Graphics
Secondly, you should also always try to use old style graphics in your poster. For example, in our western poster scenario, you must use an image that looks like the ones that can be used at the time. This means that for the most part, in western style posters, simple drawings were used. To make things more authentic you should follow this theme and make your images look like simple drawings as well.
Look For Vintage Fonts
Thirdly, never forget to download and use vintage fonts that were used in that era. This is easier to do nowadays since there are a lot of free fonts that you can download and use. In our western type poster, this means downloading a western type font that looks like typical text that printers used in that era. This adds more authentic flavor to your poster making them look older.
Add Texture, Noise And Clutter
Finally do not forget to add in texture, noise and clutter. Making the poster design look dirty makes it look older and worn down. This is perfect since it will look like your posters were already posted a long time ago. You can do this easily by applying some noise and texture filters in your image editing software.
That should make your posters look old in no time. You do not have to apply all this techniques in one poster design. But a combination of some, or if not all of these techniques should make your posters look very authentic making poster printing look well.
