Jollibee Food Corporation, or simply called Jollibee, is a fast-food restaurant founded in the Philippines by Tony Tan Caktiong and a man named Manuel C. Lumba. Jollibee started when Tony Tan Caktiong, its founder, and his family started a Magnolia Ice Cream parlor down at Cubao in 1975.

Sometime back in 1978, Caktiong and his brothers and sisters, being partners, engaged the services of a management consultant in the person of Manuel C. Lumba. Consultant Lumba shifted the business focus from ice cream to hamburgers, after his studies showed that a much larger market was waiting to be exploited.

When Lumba’s idea became a success and Tony Tan’s business skyrocketed, Lumba then became Tony Tan's first business and management mentor. Lumba next re-formed the name Jolibe to Jolly Bee and made the two words form a single name Jollibee, but changed the "y" to an "i".

Lumba next created the product name "Yumburger" as well as the name "Chickenjoy". He had the company incorporated in order to benefit from incorporation and leased a house on Main St. in Cubao, Quezon City as the first headquarters.

Jollibee’s mascot was also conceptualized by Lumba in which he states that his inspiration came from local and foreign children's books. From this came the most loved mascot of all, a large red bee in a blazer, shirt and chef's hat.

Now, Jollibee isn’t only popular in the country, but also outside of the Philippines. As of March, 2008, Jollibee philippine has 1,464 stores in the Philippines namely, Jollibee having 627 stores, Chowking having 377 stores, Greenwich Pizza having 236 stores, Red Ribbon Bakeshop having 194 stores, Delifrance having 28 stores and Tio Pepe having 2 stores.
