No Excuses for Bad Cards

Our greatest single enemy in marketing is apathy. It is a constant struggle to grab customer’s interest and keep it, always trying to stay one step ahead of the curve. That is why it always manages to surprise me when I run into otherwise professional businesspeople who are apathetic about one of their most important marketing tools, the business card. It is a shame. Too often, instead of making changes that could strengthen their face to face meetings and sales pitches, they make excuses to justify sticking with their current, lackluster business cards.

Usually, it is the old standby excuse, “I just do not have the money to invest in it.” This one should not even count as an excuse, since it is patently false. Business cards are the cheapest investment you could make with your marketing budget and can usually be compensated for by skipping a lunch at a local restaurant. You can also save money over the long term by printing your cards in bulk.

That is not the only one I have heard before. Try this one, “I know I need to rethink my business cards and come up with something more up to date, but I just never seem to find the time to fit it into my day.“ With the advent of online business card printing, there is no longer any excuse to put off updating your business cards. What used to take hours out of your busy schedule as you drove to you printer and belabored all your various options can now be done from the comfort of your office in just a few short minutes.

How about this one, “I’m just a normal, old fashioned businessman. These simple cards I have been using for years have my name and number and that is good enough for me.” Why settle for less, though? Just because you do not work in the art or design industry does not mean that graphic design business cards are not for you. Your business card represents not just you personally but your company as well. Opt for full color business cards with a designer style you can carry over into your other print marketing to help establish a brand image.

Really, enough with the excuses already. You know if I am talking about you here and you and I both know the time for excuses has passed. It is time to bite the bullet and get rid of those old cards that are no longer working for you. The process is cheap, quick and easy. There is really no excuse not to have attractive and up to date business cards that will represent how much you care about your business.
