Simple Custom Booklets Using Eyelet Setters

Custom booklets can be made in many ways. You can use a booklet printing service to print and bind your work, or you can make them yourself using a few simple tools. In this article we will share with you the steps on how to use eyelet setters and eyelets for a cheaper way of booklet printing. Eyelet setters, in case you do not know are simple tools that make holes in paper (much like a puncher) and then it lets you reinforce those holes with small metal or plastic “eyelets”. These eyelets can let you tread the different pages in a booklet quicker and faster.

Below are the simple steps that you can do to use the eyelet setters and eyelets for your custom booklets.

1. Pick your paper. First, pick the paper that you are going to use for your custom booklet. For some people they get creative in this step and use different kinds of colored paper, or special high quality glossy paper for professional effect. Just try to use the proper paper stock that can be printed on by your printer well. Something that will not cause the ink to smudge or not settle.

2. Print out what you need. Once you have your paper all picked out, start printing the booklet content that you need. Be sure to make allowances in this step for the holes that you will put in later in the pages. A good way to do this is to add an extra half an inch on the margins of your pages. If you are printing in back to back pages, try to set your word processing software to print in booklet or duplex form so that it can take into account the left and right pages of the booklet.

3. Punch in paper holes. Once you have all the pages that you need, start punching the holes for booklet pages. The eyelet setter itself has a tool that should let you punch holes into multiple pages of paper. Try to keep these holes equally far apart, and with a nice set distance from the edges of the pages itself. It is best to punch all the pages of your booklets at once so that you won't have any problems with the alignments of all the pages. Try to put in three or four holes at least, but some use more just because they like the look.

4. Add in your eyelets. Next, you can now add in your eyelets. Eyelets have two parts and you put in on top and below the hole before using the eyelet setter. You then use the eyelet setter to clam the eyelets into place inside the hole. These actually effective acts like a binding technique already securing the different pages of the booklet together. In some cases, after this step you should already be done making your booklet.

5. Tread the pages together. Finally, as an optional step, you can also tread the pages together. This adds in that artistic element to your booklets. Especially if you really want to customize the look and feel of your booklets, you can tread in some kind of special twine, yarn or string that can enhance the look of the booklet. Of course this also can be an additional binding tool that full secures the color booklet pages together.

Take note that all these steps can be grueling work. If you are planning for mass booklet printing, you may either have to get more people to help you out, or you may want a professional booklet printing service to help you print and bind your custom booklets. Otherwise for small scale booklet printing, this is the cheap and creative way to produce your custom booklets. It is made by hand and it is a really special printed work perfect for your special project or event.
