Mixed emotions.
That’s how I feel…though I tell everyone that I feel GREAT! (Of course)
But, leaving a safe, secure (so to speak), banal, CAH (Corporate America Hell) job…is scary. It’s REAL.
That’s why so many people don’t leave CAH (YOU perhaps?).
So, that’s what I am faced with here, less than a work day away from my full departure.
I sent an email today to our comp guy here - what a toad - anyway, I was asking about Cobra (what a laugh, over $1K for health insurance…RIIIIIGHT) and if I’d be covered thru the pay period or if it cut off tomorrow.
Here was his very CAH response:
Hi Stephen-Your last day of employment, slated for 12/21, will also be your last day of coverage under the XXX benefits plans including medical/dental. You will be sent a COBRA continuation coverage notice which will allow you to continue participation under the XXXX medical/dental plans for up to 18 months by having your personally pay the premiums associated with the plan. The COBRA rates are included in the notice. If you’re looking for a some comparative resources for medical/dental, a couple of good websites are linked below to assist in “comparative shopping”.www.insure.com

Regards,
The toad didn’t even take the time to sign his name…it’s JOSH by the way…what a toad (did I say that already?).
OK - so back to my original topic here…the gauntlet.
When you leave CAH, you’ll have to wade thru the resistances that have kept you here. Some of the most common are:
1) Fear of the unknown
2) Financial insecurity
3) Fear of failure
4) Fear of success (hmmm….)
5) Fear of what others might think
Fear of the unknown is clear - what might happen? I haven’t a clue. How much money will I make in August? NO EARTHLY IDEA! If you stay in CAH, you’ll definitely know…just look at your paycheck today and that will tell you.
Financial insecurity - well, duh…of course. You rely on your paycheck to fund your life and lifestyle. Of course, no guts no glory - so, you’ll never get to experience the freedom potentially available to you down the road. Also, what if you got fired? How secure is that? Would you fire yourself from your own business? Of course not…so, what is more secure? Think about that one.
Fear of failure - clean and simple, everyone has it. Sure, no one wants to fail. But, when was the last time you really failed BIG? Like a huge failure? I bet you learned a lot, and are a better person for it. You also probably ended up in a better position than you were before you failed.
Think of it like this - if you fail, you can probably find another lame-ass job. You might have to rack up a little debt for it, but the risk is actually pretty low. In fact, it might be more risky to stay right where you are…don’t forget my Saul Alinsky quote!
Fear of success….sounds odd doesn’t it? I mean, who doesn’t want success for Pete’s sake. Right? But here’s how it feels to me - TODAY - one day away from a huge success.
I feel like I am shedding an old skin for a new one. Like some old karma is being burned off. I feel like I am claiming a bit more space/autonomy in this world, and that I want to know my true SIZE.
I feel as if this success, this responsibility, this ownership - is SCARY. I feel a bit of guilt even as I leave people here behind. As if I am growing past them (whether that’s true or not…). This guilt is very tricky - the guilt of seeking happiness and reality…as if staying small serves the machine I am in - the CAH machine.
My role will be quickly filled, and that body will be sucked dry of its energy…so that the machine can survive (ever see “The Matrix”? Can you tell I love that film?).
No need for guilt then…and nothing to be afraid of - in reality. But, hey, who lives there?
Fear of what others might think - yep, I’ve got that one too. What if I fail? Will they laugh at me? What will they think of my business, and how it represents me? What, oh what, will they think?!
Who cares, right? Well, everyone does to a certain extent. But, can you be aware of it? And not allow it to stop you from moving forward? Now, that my friend is the art…
So, as you approach your own finish line…expect the gauntlet of what kept you small in CAH to surface…expect trickery from it, as if what awaits you on the other side is a treasure…something precious and worthwhile.
I believe it is my friend.
I’ve got a FREE e-book I’d like to give you. That’s right – I won’t charge you one red cent.
My ebook is called “How To Quit Your Day Job” and in it I describe EXACTLY how I left CAH and now work from my home making MORE money than ever.
I will lead you step-by-step through the path I walked, outlining critical resources that you’ll want to access as well as detailing the obstacles to your departure.
I’ll show you exactly how to make more money for yourself and not “your boss”. I think your time is worth money to you, and no longer someone else.
My mission in life is to help as many people take “the plunge” as I did.
I’d like to send it to you right now – just go here to download your copy:

All the best & see you on the other side!
