Preparing for college is one of the most important things that you should start in middle school and high school. The earlier you plan the better it is. Planning and preparations are always done ahead of the real test and it is those early birds who get away with the grain.
While you are in your high school, you can start looking into programs that provide academic enrichment, information on college planning and scholarships such as the Rhode Island Children's Crusade for Higher Education. You may not qualify for one program, but may qualify for another program. So start looking for all possible programs.
In your preparation for college, you can also take help from your school counselor and teachers. In fact you must make them realize that college preparation is definitely part of your life plan. This way they help you more with information sensing your eagerness and dedication.
Another way of college preparation is to go into the websites of these colleges and find out for yourselves the programs offered, criteria and conditions attached, qualifications and other such factors. This will give you an insight into the colleges and help you in advance preparation. Many of these colleges also cater to distance learning and offer online degrees. You can perhaps opt for online education too if you plan to work part time during college years. Online degree programs, online certificate programs, and online courses offered by traditional and online colleges & universities are as efficient as conventional degrees. Whether you seek an online associates, bachelors, masters, or PhD degree in business, technology, healthcare, or education; online education is a good alternative to conventional classroom education.
You are also advised to take challenging courses in high school. Try taking the most demanding courses and stretch your skill limits. If you find the challenge relishing, you can then talk to your school counselor about taking an advanced course. Developing deep interest in a particular area will help during college. In fact, at college you also get more practical knowledge that you didn’t get at high school. While you are in high school, you can also try to determine what helps you to study and complete your work successfully.
A college degree will certainly get you a good salary and improve your quality of life. Think well in advance the program that will suit you and also earn you a good job. If you have a definite plan and think you can materialize it, go ahead. It’s you who best knows your strengths and weaknesses. So assess yourself and plan accordingly. Follow your dream and make them realized.
Even if you cannot decide your career goal or cannot make out which course you should take up, don’t get discouraged. Go ahead as you can always plan out during the course of study. You can perhaps take heart from a recent study that says that over 50% of the students who begin college with a specific career or major change their minds. Once you are in the college you will come to know of many opportunities in college to learn about new ideas, subjects, and careers. You never know that the program you have taken may turn out to very interesting and open up career opportunities for you. As you explore the possibilities and you will see how your horizon expands.
