When the horses take to the track at Santa Anita in late October, there will be quite a few guys who think they have a chance to win. The Breeders’ Cup Classic is one of the best races of the year and it has arguably the best field that you ever ask for as a horse racing fan. How do they put together such a nice collection of horses for this race? It’s simple – they offer a ton of cash to the owner whose horse takes home the championship. In 2008, the field will be strong once again. Who are some of the Breeders’ Cup contenders that you should know before going into this race?
When talking about Breeders’ Cup contenders, you need to look no further than the horse who took home the bacon last year. This is a race that does not favor returning champions, but it is still worth mentioning that Curlin is in the lineup once again. This horse has great explosion and as evidenced in 2007, he runs some of his best races very late in the year. This is because he is trained well and they protect his legs to make sure that he is right for biggest races on the docket. Curlin will be ready to go when the Breeders’ Cup lets go from the gate and he may just have what it takes to get the job done again.
The horse that everyone seems to be talking about for this year is Commentator. This horse has had a really consistent season and he has raced an awful lot. That might hurt him when it comes time to run in the Breeders’ Cup, but he could also be ready for the long run. This horse is a contender because he is trained by Nicholas Zito, one of the best names in the entire sport. Zito has consistently trained horses to big wins, but he has yet to win one of the big Breeders’ Cup races. This might be the year for him, as feels that this horse has an opportunity to dominate.
Go Between is one of the horses that has brought himself into the limelight in recent months. This horse was something of an afterthought at the beginning of the season but now, he has guaranteed a spot in the lineup for the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Classic. That alone is a big honor, but this horse is not ready to give up just yet. The horse is built for the long run and because of that, he is one of the top Breeders’ Cup contenders in the entire field. Some fans who turn on the races will not know his name, but by the end of the day, he should put on a performance that will make fans remember and recognize.
All of these horses have a chance to be Breeders’ Cup contenders if they perform as well as they can. They are trained by excellent trainers and they have some really solid owners, as well.
