To Play or not to Play

Posted: Jan 18, 2009 | Comments: 0 | Views: 7 | Bookmark and Share

I would just like to know what hands you would never play in a game or the hand that you hate most of all.
Well, there is never a situation where you won't play any hand. If you are the BB and get 2 7 off and there are no raises you check and see the flop. And that is the worst hand period.
As far as I hands I hate the most. Anyone I lose with ranks right up there.
pocket jacks and pocket queens, force me to play and usualy lose my chips with them. Pocket pairs usaul get you in trouble. there isnt a hand i would never play. Depends what the situation is. I will raise with 7 2 offsuit, to blind steal against short stacks when there are few left at table. There is nothing betterthan makng money from nothing. Its magic.
Jack 9 is my ultimate hand. Beware!
I generally play hands on odds, however there are some exceptions.
Almost always I play 6-9 whether suited or not, only because it is my 'lucky hand' and almost 70% of the time I hit mid to high pair, and it usually evolves to two pair, or sometimes even a full house =p ; I'm still waiting for this streak of 'luck' to turn into a brutal sequence of losses (it surely will =p).
With that aside, when average stacked or less, I play any pocket pair of 7's or higher.
When high stacked I will play any pocket pair to see the flop unless there is a high raise before me.
Any suited connector cards of 8 or higher, and any non suited connectors of 10 or higher.
As for the face cards I play basically all face combinations, excluding face-rag hands (eg. K-3 offsuit or suited).
And when it comes to aces, I tend to stay away from Ace-Rag hands, unless high stacked in chips, then I may play Ace with anything up to 5, and hope for the straight. Again if high stacked I will play any combination of suited Ace-Rag in hopes of catching the nut flush. Other than those situations I will only play and Ace if pair with anything higher than or equal to 10 (will generally raise depending on the table).
And that's how I play my hands =p, like PokerMonkeyKing mentioned all hands must be played according to the situation, and so this isn't a concrete formula to how I play my hands.
Here are hands that you should definitely raise preflop with.
AA KK QQ AK JJ 1010 99 88 AQ 77.
Hands that you should not be playing are any two crads under a jack, unless they are suited and connecting.
The pot I lost was a bit more than 5k in a nl ring game I flopped trip jacks and he flopped trip aces I guess you could say he played the hand perfectly. However I have lost many times with JJ. Most of the time because I played it to aggressively. I play them now as cheaply as possible and see what happens after the flop.

In holdem poker, the winning hands of a particular player mainly depend on his Texas holdem starting hands position, and the number of his opponents on the table. It is a fact that starting hands vary greatly on the number of competition at the table; this is the reason why some new players find it hard to make a winning streak at poker.
