What does poker mean to you

Poker is not gambling although many people associate it with the latter. Poker is the game of mathematical skills, the ability to memorize and to read the others behavior.
However why this individual game is so popular and can it be associated the affection we have for the all kind of games. Is poker different in a way???

Other games help us relieve the stress, have fun and share the time with friends we usually know.

With poker it is a different story. Loosing up may not be the best idea (except if you are doing it in bluffing purposes). Poker can not bring about much fun for a professional poker player…only novices could consider playing poker as an (often costly) entertainment.

So what are the psychological impulses which make us want to play this game.

The answer is probably complex and includes many human strives and dreams which we consciously or subconsciously keep in us and which keep us going in our everyday life.

Besides the fact that some may associate the world of poker playing with the world of the glamorous casinos and the carelessness of the rich…

Everybody feels the need to compete with the others and have victories over them. It is clear that the people do not share the same skills or level of intelligence but it is important for us to win with our scarce but well utilized potential against those who get it better but were less intelligent and did not utilize it properly. Do you remember the fairy tail about the rabbit and the turtle???

Another factor is the thrill…what will I get and how it is going to be. Each time it is going to be differently but still I can used what I have learned so far and even if it will not work it is going to be yet another lesson for me to learn.

Poker also strengthens our confidence in reading the people as well as gives the pleasant impression of having a hobby which is not for everyone but just reserved for the best.

All these factors makes us feel that poker playing is something attractive in which we like to invest our time…no other game can provide to its players.
