The business would provide vital articles to the newspaper for free. In return, the newspapers published the business contact information that developed the public relations of the company in addition to spreading general awareness of the business amongst the masses.

The site owner generates revenue through advertising posted on the site pages. A known writer or appealing article will generate traffic on the site that will attract many companies to advertise their products on said site. Unlike the single-purpose use of article marketing in print media, the online version has many facets. The use of articles for search engine optimization has grown tremendously today. Articles target a niche market, and the niche is indicated by keywords. Niche marketing allows the article writers to target their particular market segment.

Article marketing is a very popular tool in growing business on internet. The only concern, however, is the reduction in quality of the published works, mainly due to inept writers publishing the articles for different companies.

Search engine optimization (SEO) categorizes web pages according to their rankings when keywords are typed in the search engines. The sites with higher rankings are more likely to draw greater visitors. These increased visits will yield greater sales. Article marketing helps in improving these website rankings.

SEO increases website's rank depending on its backlinks. Therefore, posting articles with links to a companys website will give it higher rankings on the web. The trend of posting articles for SEO purposes is on the rise.
