FENG SHUI
Feng Shui is literally translated into "wind & water". It is the term used to describe the art & science of the natural flow of energy, as it applies to your environment. For the individual person, this means their home or it can also be applied to the workplace. Our homes can serve as a metaphor for our lives because, in the floor plan, there are areas that represent the different aspects of life, like wealth & prosperity, relationships, reputation, career, and health. Once you are aware of the pattern in your life and in the places you have chosen to live, you can change it, if you wish. Moving provides each and every one of us the opportunity to change, grow & become more the person we truly wish to be. To live the life we wish to live. When we have some Feng Shui tools to help us, this becomes easier and more profound. The first thing we do when a move is imminent is find a new home. When looking for that new home, keep in mind that this home should in some way be better than the last one. More able to support the things in life you are working towards. Before you move into it, you should establish your energy there in a positive way. This can be done by performing some kind of ritual, something that has meaning to you like burning sage or incense or just setting your intentions of what would you like to have in your life. This process will clear the deck for your new dwelling to receive you & establish you as the new resident.

One of the most important Feng Shui "cures" you can do for yourself is to get rid of anything and everything that you don't use or don't love. Even if your great aunt gave it to you years ago because she loved it! This is easier for some people than others & for some things than others. You may find yourself getting very emotional. It is a good idea to have a friend help with this part. He or she will not be attached to your stuff. Donating unwanted items can be a good one. The things you decide to keep should be packed carefully and labeled clearly. Before leaving the previous home find a time to review the experiences you had there, with gratitude, letting go of the past and paving the path for a new beginning. Make sure you take very good care of yourself throughout the entire process. You are not just moving, you are growing & changing. You should be eating well, exercising, getting enough sleep & keeping up with whatever spiritual practice is important to you. This will keep the stress levels manageable & allow you to stay focused on the wonderful new adventure you are embarking on!

As mentioned before, your home has areas that represent different aspects of life. This “bagua” is then superimposed over the floor plan of your home to determine where these areas are. You do this by aligning the three “guas” at the bottom of the map with the front Door of your home. Your front door should be in one of these areas. So that, when you stand at the front entrance, looking into your house, wealth will be in the far left corner, relationships in the far right, etc. When determining the best placement of furniture, it is important to keep a few things in mind. The three most important pieces of furniture you own are your bed, your stove, and your desk. These items need to be placed with the most advantage. The bed is where you retreat each night to rest and should be in a position where you can easily see the door to your bedroom from it. It should not be placed under a window. If you are sharing your home with a partner or would like to, there should be equal sized tables & lighting on either side of the bed. Your stove provides you with nourishment and is not to be visible from the front door. The Chinese believe it represents wealth as well, the more people you can feed, and the wealthier you are. Your desk represents where you do your work. That becomes even more important if you actually do work from home. Your desk should be placed so that you are facing the entrance to the room, you should have a chair with a nice high back with no openings. Aside from these basic guidelines, remember to keep things arranged so that the traffic flow is easy and the feeling is welcoming. These things will allow the energy to flow more freely, helping you to maintain a life that's peaceful and prosperous. Where these areas exist in your home can be found by using the “bagua” map.
