The Three Key National Hunt System - a Review

It is interesting that "The Three Key National Hunt System" has been launched hot on the back of the "Simply The Best System". The reason I say this is because they both come out of the same stable, Sportsworld Publishing but basically take opposing approaches to fining winners during the National Hunt season.

Whilst Simply the Best takes a retrospective view of trainer's past records dating from the season before the Three Keys relies on current season's performances. But there has to be more than one way to skin a rabbit so there is no reason why two such opposing methods could not both work well.

The Three Keys is the latest offering from Antony Gibson who had a great deal of success with his Protégé System earlier this year. Although the new system is designed mainly for the peak National Hunt season from November to April it should work well throughout the year.

The actual selection process is pretty straight forward and there only 3 factors that you have to consider when making your selections. During Antony's test period which covered the last 21 months there was an average of 12 bets per month. Of the 253 bets 49 were winners giving a percentage of just under 20%. This may not seem a very high strike rate until you consider that a horse has to be priced at 5/1 or greater to be a bet. In fact 14 of the winners were at double figure odds with one selection Royaleety winning at 25/1 on Boxing Day last year.

As with most systems the promoters quote the profits to £100 level stakes but there are few punters who bet at this level. On a more realistic level if you had laid £10 on each of the 253 selections you would have shown a profit over £2,870 which is not too bad for just 12 bets a month. If your basic stake is greater than £10 I am sure you can work out the potential for yourself. It is worth noting that the quoted profits are based on Betfair SP. At standard SP your profit would have been down slightly at £2,260 on all bets.

What do you get for your money? The system comes in a 17 page pdf document but in honesty the system can be summed up in 3 sentences. The first two pages outline the basis on which the system is based and proposes a suggested betting bank of 50 points and level stakes which seems reasonable.

At £95 The Three Keys System is not cheap but it is easy to operate. It relies on up to date trainers form figures which are available in both the on and offline versions of the Racing Post. If you purchase the Three Keys you will be given access to a web page which will point you to the selections for the first month.

Overall this is a promising system coming from a proven source; it could be ideal for occasional punters or those looking to add a further stream to their betting portfolio.
