I am writing this article to educate the masses about free advertising.
I am protesting paid advertising to promote websites. I have spent way too much money with little ROI (Return on Investment). The best ROI that I have come across has been with writing articles that interest people and building back links to my site. The difference between the two is TIME and lots of money!!! If you have patience and time to watch your traffic grow at a very slow pace then writing articles is probably the way to go for you.
A few other FREE options I use to get traffic are blogging and posting in forums with a link to my website in my signature block. Forums just happen to be my favorite place to hang out and post interesting comments. Not only can you build great back links on forums you can also gain a ton of important knowledge. I belong to a few good forums but my favorite is warriorforum.com. If you want to learn about internet marketing then that is definitely the forum to sign up with.
Some people still believe in sending emails to a mass amount people. They call it OPT in because someone went to a site and put in their email address to get a free product. I don’t believe in this tactic because it seems a little deceptive to me. I do have to mention though, signing up to a newsletter is a different option all together. This is more legit to me because the person signing up knows that they are going to get emails or they wouldn’t have signed up in the first place. There is one other option to the email concept and that is double OPT in. This is where the recipient gets and email and then they have to click a link to verify that they wanted to subscribe to get the emails in the first place. If they click on that link then they become fair game. Anyway, I still stay away from this form of advertising. Some people make a ton of money off of it but I still feel weird and kind of like I am spamming even if they opted in to receiving the messages.
I have talked about a few methods that I use to get my site noticed that you can also use to break into the online market. I would suggest you try them all, don’t take my word as gospel. If you feel that you can’t wait 6 months to build up thousands of back links then maybe PPC (pay per click, like google adwords for example) is the right thing for you but if you have the time I would suggest the free marketing techniques.
