If I were asked to give a definition of the phrase Management Training Centre, my response would be: “A purpose built facility providing a dedicated business environment conducive to learning and development”.
My concern is that some hotels and other organisations, wanting to benefit from the revenue generated in a specialised market, are using the phrase carelessly when its facilities do not match the description it promotes on its websites and in other marketing materials. This reckless and unfounded description of such a specialised product may ultimately lead to devaluing the phrase and, in turn, the product. Therefore there is a need to understand the real meaning of what a Management Training Centre means, so that people may know what to expect from a genuine centre for management training.
The responsibility lies with the management team of any facility providing training rooms and related services to be clear on the product they sell and their target audience. A hotel and a Management Training Centre cannot function as part of the same facility. These are two very different products, the first caters for the leisure market and the other offers a dedicated business environment. Although many clients are willing to use hotels as a venue for their training and meeting requirements, and some may even prefer to use hotels, the point that must be made is that prospective clients should be able to differentiate clearly between the two descriptions and trust that the facility they ultimately choose will reflect the meaning of the phrase and deliver exactly that.
