Mumbai Bombings Shake the Outsourcing Community

Coming in the grip of immense fear of offshoring outsourcing customers has become a stern reality: a major bomb attack in the hub of outsourcing premises.

Scores of people have been stabbed to death and succumbed to injury in a series of seven separate bomb attacks in Mumbai. At peak time of around 6.00pm, bombs were exploded on different commuter trains. The blasts took place at Matunga, Khar, Mahim, Jogeshwari, Borivali and Bhayandar, with most on moving trains and two at stations.

India is not unknown to political violence or natural calamities. Tiff with Pakistan over the disputed Kashmir province has endured for decades and the annual monsoon season jeopardize tinsel town like Mumbai at risk. The terrorist attack in Mumbai and conflict between Israel and Lebanon raises a series of questions for companies sourcing technology globally.

People were very explicit about the construction, operation, location, and resilience of the offshore development centers which their vendors had developed for them but can’t be operated unfortunately because of this unpredictable event.

The tragic plight in Mumbai has left obvious impact on the railway company, its infrastructure and the horrific loss of life which has affected businesses as well as families and communities, from a general business continuity point of view, the main immediate effect is also linked to staff availability. These things have really shaken outsourcing community.

In the wake of the attacks, outsourcing providers in Mumbai struggled to make sure that employees and customer’s data were safe and secure. At the same time, outsourcing customers obtain reassurances that their Indian partners could tackle with future unforeseen events.
