Benefits of a Cedar Swing Set

A cedar swing set is a classy addition to your backyard or lawn play area and are often the preferred choice of set among families. Cedar swings are very sturdy and are easy to maintain because the lumber is quite resistant to weather. Cedar (or redwood) is naturally resistant to insects and is rot resistant. Additionally, they are safer and last longer than their metal counterparts.

With these swing sets your kids can have fun climbing and going down the slide and swinging. Because it is wood, there are a number of elaborate designs that can be constructed. Some feature bridges, mini houses, and covered areas. And, of course, playsets made of wood are friendlier to the environment because a lot less plastic is included in their construction.

But there are some considerations that have to be looked at before purchasing a cedar swing set. First is the quality of the wood. Second, responsible manufacturers should know to cut according to the grain, making sure to avoid the natural faults or cracked spots of the wood.

A cedar swing set must also be sanded well so children will avoid splinters while they are playing on the set or climbing the ladders. It is recommended to apply a suitable stain coating or varnish to give extra protection against the elements. Plus, the darker, richer color makes the playsets more visually appealing.

Due to the nature of wood playsets being heavier than other materials, it is recommended to consider the transportation and assembly services that the merchant provides. Getting the playset to its destination is one thing, but putting it together can be a considerable challenge to parents. If you are assembling it yourself, be sure the manual is included and have phone support on hand in case questions come up during assembly.
