Car Games for Kids

Families get to travel on long car rides from time to time. These families more often include children in the long car rides and it is therefore important for the children to be kept occupied particularly with interesting activities such as car games. Although this does not happen very regularly, it is important to note that children have a very short attention span and they need to be entertained to avoid tantrums in the car. Such tantrums can make a Christmas or Easter getaway or any other vacation a nightmare. Some of these games largely depend on the age group of the children that are traveling in the car. When adults are planning for a road trip that will include children it is important to research on suitable games to play while on the trip to keep children engage as well as make it enjoyable. 

Although these games are many, people can also invent their own specific ones according to the children and their ages. Below are some games that one can involve in. The first is whereby one creates a travel diary or journal that is meant to preserve road trip memories for a lifetime. One needs a sketch pad and a box of crayons or markers whereby the children are made to draw a picture and write something of each event along the way. Parents can contribute by adding additional sentences and be sure to include the date.

Another interesting game is where children can have a singing marathon of old classics. This not only makes time fly by but is also known to be a tool to make families bond. Another notable game that can be included is where parents give their children a list of items to watch for while driving. The children are supposed to check off each item they spot from the list. This list can be made and adjusted according the type of scenery there is.  

For children who are not yet able to read, one can draw pictures of the items to make it much easier for them. This list of items may include bridges, schools, landmarks, and license plates ... just to mention a few. Another interesting game is whereby one chooses a subject and everyone has to give an example of each in alphabetical order. For example the subject could be names of girls and the contributors should each give a name of a girl following the alphabetical order. However, be careful not to force them into a game they do not like. This can make the journey longer than it is. 

When one is unable to do so he/she drops out. Another notable game is the one where a person starts off with mentioning an item and the rest should follow by mentioning anything that they think of elating to what the previous person has said. For example one can start with dog and the following can maybe say animal and so on until one gets completely stuck. Those who also repeat something that has already been mentioned are out. This is good for lateral thinking.
