For those of you that have raised children you know raising a toddler can sometimes quite testing. Most of the toddlers have thrown a tantrum at one stage or the other. Kids who throw tantrums are not necessarily bad kids. It is their way of coping with their feelings and emotions. The best thing you can do in this situation is to try to calm down your child before it gets out of hand. Here are some ways you can help your toddler when he or she is acting up:
Ignore: The first thing you should do is to ignore the tantrum. But if your child has the tendency to hurt themselves when throwing a tantrum, have an eye on them – but don’t let them know that you are watching. Your child will then see that what they are doing is not working and may stop. Sometimes ‘ignoring’ is not easy – especially if you are not at home If your child is one that has a past of breaking things or trying to hurt themselves, be sure to keep an eye on them but do not let them know you are watching.
If ignoring the problem doesn't work then try talking to them - explain to them how when they behave like that, it hurts your feelings.
Some experts say that imitate your child can make them stop the tantrum. It might distract them and they can see for themselves how funny the whole thing looks.
If your child acts up in a public place, it can be embarrassing to some. Try to stay calm and let your child know that what they are doing is not ok. Let them know if they continue to act this way in front of everyone that certain privileges will be taken away. If the tantrum does not stop, it may be best just to take your child home and let them get the rest they may need.
Try different methods with your child and see which one works best. Remember that they are only a toddler once and they will eventually grow out of this stage.

Avoid Parent Stress while Travelling with Older Kids or Teenagers
By: Kinjal Shah | 06/12/2009Travelling with older kids or teenagers is a particularly stressful experience. Older kids (above 7 years) or teenagers (if they do decide to come with you on a holiday) have a much more sense of individuality and hence they also want to have a say in the way the holidays should be spent. This creates a lot of parent stress as there could be differing needs of parents and children and also some other slightly smaller kids (if there is significant age difference between siblings).
