Drunk off Your Class: Are Your Children Abusing?

There’s an old saying, “Kids will be kids”. When that was thought up I wonder what kids were doing at that time to acquire such a slogan. A lot of mischief making and other rowdy habits, but in today’s world the mischief has calmed down and the abuse has risen. Alcohol high school testing has been a leading attempt in trying to combat the horrific lifestyles your children are beginning to lead. Another test that they are now conducting is alcohol hair testing. With these tests teachers have been able to assess the abusive content of our children and take action against it.

One major issue that comes up with testing like this is the ability to cheat the tests. We can be crafty in the ways that we try and absolve ourselves of what is in our systems when we know a test in immanent.  The good thing about hair alcohol tests is that they’re much hard to circumvent the traditional tests that we’re used to. The extent of which resides in pretty much bleaching your hair to the point where it’s on the verge of falling out, or cutting off your hair altogether. If you notice your child spending a lot of time in the shower after the suggestion of one of these tests, it’s probable they are trying to cover up their lifestyle from you.
It’s important to know your boundaries as a parent. Of course we all wants best for our kids but we cannot force them to do anything they don’t want to do. We have more experience with resistance than they do. Think about what you would have done as a child if someone wanted you to take a test like this. Odds are that any one of us would try to cheat it as well. It’s a slim number, the amount of people who aren’t rambunctious in their teens.

When the test is complete and you find that your child is leading an unhealthy lifestyle, you have to keep in mind that they believe they know what’s right for them. They haven’t the experience with people that are truly helpless when it comes to illegal drugs and alcohol. But we don’t want our kids to feel like we’re treating them like children. The best we can do is suggesting to them the hurtful nature of these narcotics. If we try to force them to do anything they will become angry with you and are likely to view you as a totalitarian that doesn’t understand what it’s like to be child.

The best you can do is identify the problem and keep your kids informed. There comes a certain point where you child becomes an adult and there’s nothing you can do to change their mind on a subject. If you force them to anything, then they will likely hate you for it and break of communication. Tread softly and know that you are doing what’s right even if what they’re doing is wrong.
