How to Know Your Child is All Set for Toilet Training

Start toilet training your toddler only when both you and your toddler are both ready for it. To toilet train your toddler it requires tremendous patience, energy and time on the part of the mother before she can finally successfully implement it in her toddler. It will necessarily take up to 3 months at the most to get your child to be fully toilet trained.

You will know that your child is all set to be start toilet training when he or she indicates that they have soiled their diapers or when the child says that it wants to use the potty. You can expect this from a child anywhere between the ages of 18months and 24 months. After the age of 2 years it is not common to see children in diapers. If your child is above 2 years of age and still insist on wearing diapers then you should seriously consider talking to your child's doctor about this problem and how you are going to get it solved.

There is a certain method by which you can allow your toddler to go along with you to the toilet and feel the comfort of the bathroom. Allow you child to see the urine and the bowel movements inside the toilet bowl and help him or her to flush the contents. This will instil the idea that it is here that he has to do his potty. Allow the child to flush the toilet a couple of times and be thrilled at the prospect of flushing. This will induce a certain amount of confidence in the toddler about using the toilet.

The next thing in toilet training is to get a potty chair and allow the child to play with it first and allow him or her to sit on it playfully with clothes on first and then slowly after removing the pants.

Keep talking to your child while he or she plays with the potty chair and say its their exclusive potty chair. When your child is quite comfortable about sitting on the potty chair make sure you too are close by speaking and reassuring your child and maybe even reading from a book while the child is engaged in doing his or her potty. This will slowly enable the child to gain confidence and will make toilet training him easier.

After the child is quite confident using the potty chair then it is time you bought some toilet training seats to be used I the toilets in your home. These toilet training seats can be fixed on to the regular seats and will help to hold the child. Be around the toilet till your child has finished his or her potty so that your presence is always reassuring to the child.

Reward your child every time he or she uses the toilet. This can be done in the form of chart which can be colorful and awarding stars to them etc. There are so many ways you can go about while toilet training your toddler and all it needs is patience, time and energy on the part of the mother.
