In this age of two-income families and working mothers, spending quality time with your children may seem impossible. Demanding work schedules and never-ending housework seem to have taken over your life. There are several things that you can do to ensure that you are able to spend the time that you need to with your family.
You can start by prioritizing and reorganizing your daily schedule. You should examine your daily schedule and organize your tasks beginning with those that are absolutely necessary to complete. You then need to eliminate the remaining ones. If a task is not essential, do not do it. You may be surprised at how much time you gain by doing this process. This elimination can be utilized at work as well as at home.
You may need to get your priorities straightened out as well. Playing at the park with your child outweighs reorganizing your garage. Reading with your child should be more important than the yard work. Decide what is most important to you and concentrate on those areas. The rest will be there later after you are done with your child.
Housework is the most senseless idea that mankind ever developed. You can spend hours at it every day and the next day it is still there. Instead of spending time daily on chores, you may want to take several hours during the weekend to do a thorough cleaning. Then during the rest of the week, it should take just a minimum of time to keep it clean. Your children can also aid you in this endeavor. With everyone's help, the house can stay nice while you still have time to do the things that you want to.
Another thing to remember, especially if you are a working mother, is that your house will NEVER be spotless. No matter how hard you try, this is a no-win situation. You should just relax and accept this fact as inevitable. Obsessing over your housework is also taking much needed time away from your children. A little clutter never hurt anyone and gives your home that lived-in look.
In the case of the household chores that absolutely need to be done, you need to delegate the work. Even your smallest child is capable of doing some housework. You can assign your family tasks that are age-appropriate and show them how to complete them. Do not be overcritical as to how well the job gets done. The important thing is that you are giving your children some responsibility and freeing up some of your time as well.
You may also want to limit the number of activities that your children are involved in. You can ask your child which activity that he are most interested in and eliminate any others. If you have three children that are all involved with three activities, you may end up spending more of your time in transit than you do at home. By limiting these, you are freeing up time for both you and your children.
These are just a few of the many ways that you can find time to spend with your children. Again, if you prioritize and organize the tasks that must be done and eliminate all others, you may be surprised to discover that you had more time than you thought.
