Parenting Toddler

What is the most annoying thing about a toddler? Is it his crying, kicking, pushing, biting and scratching? Or is it his talking back and yelling at home or in public places? How many times have you felt afraid to go to the store because you are just afraid that your child will do another scene in front of everyone just to get what he wants? Is your child the fear of Birthday parties because of his aggressive behavior? Raising a toddler with a positive behavior and good manners is not something that we grow up ready for. How do you teach your young one to listen and be polite? How do you eliminate all sorts of bad behaviors from your toddler? Parenting toddlers is a skill that requires the right kind of tools and strategies. Parenting toddlers requires skills such as patience, love (of course), understanding, compromising, forgiving and lots of toleration.

During the first months of life, a baby can only communicate through smiles and cries. What do you do when your baby smiles? You give your baby more love. What do you do when your baby cries? You try to quiet him down but how friendly is your response? How long does your patience last when your baby cries? Some parents tend to ignore a baby when he cries. How do you think a baby feels about that? Have you ever thought about the fact that if a baby cries it’s because he is trying to say something? In most instances, a baby cannot express what’s wrong with words, so he does it by crying.

How understanding are you with a bad behaving toddler? Do you stop to think of the reasons why he is throwing a tantrum, kicking, screaming, biting, pushing, or scratching? Do you shut your child out or do you listen to his feelings? Parenting toddlers requires being able to understand your child even under unpleasant circumstances. Again, a bad behaving toddler is attempting to say that something is wrong.

Adults often fail to realize that under most situations they are the ones who make all the decisions. But what happens when an adult’s decision affects what a child wants? Parents need to be able to compromise with their little ones so as to have a more positive behavior from them. And what happens when a young child apologizes for something he did? Do you forgive him, have a pleasant and understanding talk or do you punish him anyway?

When parenting toddlers, parents must constantly remember that love is not always enough. A young child needs to feel that he is understood, respected, and of course loved. Blaming a toddler for his own bad behavior is not always the toddler’s fault. It can very often be the parents’ fault due to the lack of patience, toleration and understanding.
