Saying ‘no’ to a Child

Once your child turns 2 its time for your child to learn self-discipline. This is an important part of your child’s life. Your child cannot learn this all by themselves – wish they were that perfect. You need to set some rules and limits. When they are four they still want to be the baby but also want to be the big boy or girl. You need to be firm so they know who is boss but give them a little independence too.

When you say "no" to your child, stand your grounds. Stick to your answer even if they beg - And they can be very persuasive. Remind them of the rules and correct behavior. Keep your rules reasonable. But be fair though. Your child will be much more likely to honor your rules if they are fair. Explain your answer with a reason. Don’t just say ‘no’.

Keep all your explanations short and precise. A long explanation might just confuse them and make it harder for them to understand. You will also want to reward your child for good behavior.

Saying ‘no’ to your kids is not easy. Many parents avoid saying no to their children because they don't want to be considered unfair, mean or a bad parent. But by not saying ‘no’, we are in fact not helping the child. We are teaching them bad manners. When saying’ no’ you don’t have to raise your voice. You can be polite but be firm. It is hard but something that has to be done.

When i convey my son to timeout? I'd spank his butt. When it comes to choking hazards there are several things that can be a risk factor. Basically, anything that is small and will fit in the mouth is not a good idea to keep in reach of your children. Another thing you need to do is cover any electrical outlets that are not being used. It is fairly easy for a curious child to end up getting electrocuted. The prongs in the outlets are just perfect to fit things such as butter knives and screw drivers. These can easily electrocute a child. For extra safety, cut off the power to any outlets that aren’t being used, as long as they have their own circuit. You can purchase outlet coverings that will also keep the outlets hidden.
