Shop Two of Everything For the Twins

Having two babies does not mean having to spend twice the amount of money. Twins can share many items, especially when they are infants. Before you buy or register for two of everything, take note of this list of items that your babies can share:

Swings: Most infants love being in a baby swing, but they also get bored in them after awhile. I recommend purchasing a variety of items to entertain them when you are unable to hold them. Instead of buying two swings, invest in a swing, a bouncy chair, and a play gym. That way, you can switch these items when a twin gets bored of one or the other.

Baby carriers: If you are alone with your babies for much of the time, you will not use two baby carriers often enough to make buying two of them worthwhile. Most baby carriers do not allow you to strap both carriers onto your body at one time. The ones that do are typically not comfortable for either you or your babies. I found that even with my husband around, we rarely used both carriers at once since we also had a stroller with us on most outings.

Changing tables: Never mind having two side-by-side changing tables. Even if you have another adult with you at all times, it will not hurt a baby to wait the few minutes it takes for you to change his or her sibling.

Baby bathtubs: You really only need one. When your babies are small, it is easier (and safer) to bathe one baby at a time, especially when you do not have another adult to help you during bath time.

Toys: Buy several different toys rather than two of everything. Your babies will like the variety, and having one of each toy will encourage sharing.

The Twin Bassinet: Not buying two of everything will free up money to buy items that you really need. With the money you save, consider splurging on a twin bassinet. This uniquely designed bassinet has two side-by-side sleeping compartments separated by a mesh partition. This allows your babies to sleep close to each other without clobbering or rolling over each other.

When your twins get fussy, you can put both in the bassinet and gently rock them to sleep at the same time. This trick worked like magic with Faith and Hope. Although the twin bassinet costs more than a single bassinet, it typically costs less than buying two individual bassinets.

When your babies outgrow the bassinet, it converts into a large playpen that accommodates two babies better than standard-sized playpens do. To date, Graco makes the only twin bassinet on the market.

Remembering the day the doctor told us always brings a smile to my face. As he was doing the usual ultrasound during my 3rd month, he says in a calm voice. “Here is the baby’s heart”, then moving to another location, “and here is the other baby’s heart.” Just as I did then, I still stop breathing for a minute. Although extremely excited I was also very scared. I didn’t know what to expect of the pregnancy, delivery, and oh my gosh how was I going to take care of two babies?

Safety rules are pretty strict concerning children play in pools, lakes, and oceans. Many parents are wise enough to keep a close watch over their precious offspring when they are in outside water areas. However, the number one reason for deaths in children between the ages of one and four is drowning.

The Marble map, while procedural, offers a more realistic looking version of its name than some of its bitmap counterparts provide. As of your 3D application, there are now two marble maps, the generic Marble and a new map, Perlin Marble.

Man-made materials are far easier to work with in both creation and animation. Why? Well, if you look around you, you are surrounded with all kinds of ideas for materials in your scene. Some materials are animated; some are not. Whatever the case, you will find that almost every material that occurs as a result of human intervention is re-creatable within your 3D application.

Splat gives great results when animated, but you might not use it in the traditional "splat manner"-meaning you probably will not want to use it to simulate paint splattering against the side of a wall. With Splat, there are a few functions that you will want to try to animate:

You see, in earlier days when 3D programs users produced renderings, they had little to work with in the way of Random maps. Sure, there were many plug-ins (called IPAS) that attempted to simulate various Random effects; but there never was a "catch-all" map that could perform well in almost any Map type within a material.

Procedural maps, as mentioned earlier, are great for building organic surfaces. Why? Procedural maps are, by nature, random in their effect. This means that you can design a great, complex, organic surface without having even a remotely repeating pattern. Rather than you worrying about a map that tiles across the surface of an object, a procedural map takes care of evenly distributing itself-without Mapping coordinates.

The real world is chock full of great ideas for fictional materials. How many times have you stared at a cloud's shape and thought about what it resembled? Look around you.

Whether you have been working with your 3D application for a few weeks or since the early days of 3D programs, you have already created at least one fictional material-or at least tried to. Fantastic and special effects materials are the most taxing to create for one simple reason-they stretch our creative thinking to the limits.

Rough things up. Very few objects in the world are perfectly smooth and clean. Taking the time to rough up each object or its material will go a long way to adding realism to your scenes. Use the procedural maps such as Noise, Smoke, Cellular, and Dents to add subtle and not so subtle surface perturbations for a more worn look
