In this series of articles we look at each age of a child to determine which childcare setting is the best for both baby, toddler and preschooler and for you
Your preschool age child age 3+ safety, happiness, care and well being are the most important factors to concider when choosing the right childcare setting for your toddler .if a family member or childminder is not an option and you wish to choose a nursery here are some facts to help you make the right decision.
1. safety! is the room safe! is it cluttered, untidy 7. Do the staff take the children into the garden to play, to explore, to do outdoor activities ? 3 year olds too need plenty of fresh air?
2. Is there lots to do for the children or are they bored ?Are they well supervised or do children get up to mischief ?,fight with out staff intervening?
3 is there a good variety of activities that the children seem happy and interested ?
4.is there time for fun, laughter, experiments where children can find things out for themselves or do the staff tend to do it for them?
5. staff that frequently leave and new ones start is not a good sign. all children need continuity of care and the same keyworker that can look after them.
6. cleanliness what is the nursery bathrooms like hygenic ? is it clean?
7.Accidents! mild bumps and falls from children running outside happen a lot for confidentiality reasons they may not let you but have a look at the accident book if a lot of accidents occur it may suggest they are not supervising the children properly.but serious ones are a cause for concern.
6. staff interecting with each other is there bickering amongst themselves. If the staff are happy then its a good sign that the children will be too.
