It is never too early to start taking control of your finances and learning about how to manage money from an early age can do no harm. One of the best ways of teaching youngsters about how to take care of finances is by opening their very own bank account.
Anyone under the age of sixteen can open their own current account and access their cash as and when required. Current accounts for under 16’s typically come with a cash card which can be used in ATM’s throughout the United Kingdom, providing twenty four access to funds.
Children’s bank accounts can generally be opened with a small amount, offering the opportunity for the savvy saver to watch their pounds grow.
The more money saved the more interest earned so current accounts for under 16’s are a great place to stash pocket money or money earned from a part time job.
For those aged sixteen to eighteen there is a varied choice of young person’s bank accounts that work harder for your money than your pocket does and offer a safe and secure way to manage funds. Most accounts will come with a cash card for when you’re out and about or want to order and pay for goods online.
Accounts can usually be managed online which means day-and-night access to financial information completes the picture and gives the account holder complete control over their money.
If you’re over eighteen you can pick and choose from the array of different bank accounts on the market. An effective way to make sure you choose the best bank account for your needs is to carefully consider how you use your bank account, helping you to assess what kind of customer you are.
If your bank account tends to be in credit all the time and you only need an overdraft facility for emergencies then you should look for accounts that pay the highest interest on a positive balance or that offer free everyday banking as long as you stay in credit.
If, on the other hand, you tend to be use your overdraft each month then it would be wiser to look for an account that charges low amounts of interest on overdrawn amounts. Some banks even offer introductory offers or interest free overdrafts for a certain period of time so compare different options before making your final decision.
Some bank accounts offer a range of services in return for a monthly fee; interest free overdrafts for times when you need a little extra cash, cardholder protection for complete peace of mind against theft or loss of your card and worldwide travel insurance for jetting setting customers.
Once you understand how you use your bank account and decide upon which features you will benefit from the most, then you can narrow down your search for the ideal bank account and find one that closely matches your requirements.
