I focus on saving people money and writing on affordable niches. My primary focus is on affordable insurance. In addition, I have had a passion for affordable dental and medical care.
Saving money is a useful and advisable activity under any set of circumstances, and recent financial conditions have made saving even more of a holy grail to many people. But what if you already see yourself as a financial paragon, a veritable domestic Buffet, firmly in control of your personal financial reins? Fortunately, there is also more you can do to cut costs (and corners, where necessary and where safe), you just have to get a little more creative! While so doing, you may even have some fun and become motivated to stick to your new changes whilst re-programming yourself to always look for a cheaper, and often more fun alternative than is presented by the corporations and ad-executives.
First, kill two birds with one stone: walk or cycle instead of driving or taking public transportation, where possible. Not only will you get back into shape (if this is one of your goals), but will also save you a good deal of money. Who know, you may just decide to make this a permanent lifestyle change, thereby saving yourself a huge amount of money on gas, car insurance and train tickets! If you absolutely cannot give up the car due to logistical reasons, why not look at starting a neighbourhood car-pool? Take it in turns to drive and pool the cost of insurance and gas. In many cities, there are also special car-pool lanes and you will often pay a lower toll in such cases.
Also, if you are dreading Christmas, Easter or an aunt's birthday because of the Hallmark Effect on your finances, why not get creative and make your own greetings cards? If you have a computer with decent Photoshop software, you can design and print your own, personalised cards and effects. You can also make them from scratch from raw materials-a great activity to get your kids involved with. And remember, the personal touch is always so much better!
For ladies, try getting your hair cut/trimmed a little less regularly. Even stretching your regular trim by two weeks or so every time will save you the cost of at least two haircuts and a tip per year.
Finally, stop spending your $5 bills! Whenever you get one, put it in the back of your wallet and when you get home, put it in a special jar. Do this for a month and see how much you have saved. Get ready for a nice surprise. Also, carry less cash generally. You will be less tempted to buy frivolous items, and having to put purchases on your card will make you think more carefully about your spending. Try using these tips regularly to help you save and see money come back to you bank account for a change.
