From helping from home to doing what you can as a business, everybody's trying to do their bit for the environment nowadays. There's good reason to do so as greenhouse gases and carbon emissions escalate to heights that have caused thousands of experts to sound alarm bells. We're encouraged now to recycle as much as we can, to use less energy in our day to day lives and to simply do our best to reduce our negative impact on the environment.
There are lots of ways you can do your bit and, happily, many of these ways benefit you as well as the planet. For example, by walking or cycling instead of taking the bus you're doing a little something for yourself as well as the environment - it's far healthier to take the exercise than use your car or public transport and the perks this has for your physical and mental health don't need explaining.
Recycling has become the norm now and this excellent reusing of old goods has meant that there is a far more sustainable source for the materials we need to manufacture them. You can recycle without having the bin collectors come round, though - simply use your old glass bottles as candle holders, which look fantastic as wax collects around the glass, or use cardboard boxes for storage. You can even give items like egg boxes and cardboard to the kids for arts and crafts - helping your child cultivate their creativity, as well as ensuring the items don't go to waste.
One important way of cutting down on environmental impact is to stop using so much electricity and gas. This can be difficult for people who are used to using plenty of power, but its damage to the environment is considerable.
Even just by turning off a light when you leave the room, you're making a difference - however minute. And once you combine various energy-saving tricks, like using your washing machine only when you have to; hand washing dishes instead of using the dishwasher; turning the lights off when you're not using them; switching TVs and computers off rather than leaving them on standby and turning hot water on for a set time per day rather than just switching and leaving it on, the difference will be much bigger.
Best of all, all of that energy saving will mean your utility bills have a good chunk sliced off them and you'll be able to enjoy the moral and practical benefits of saving your wallet as well as the environment.
