The Key to Salubrious Savings

Some people save to buy a new home or to improve the one they already have. Others save to go on holidays and some people save simply because they like to have money set aside for any unexpected costs and occurrences.

It is all very well saying you need to save money but it is equally important to know how to go about this feat.

In order to save you need to set yourself a budget and make sure that you take everything into account. It might be best to work from a previous month’s bank statement to make sure that you remember to include everything.

Look at how much you are paying for your utility bills and shop around to see if you can get a better deal elsewhere. Sometimes changing provider can save money or simply having your gas and electricity with the same provider can shave some costs off your monthly bill.

Combining your broadband and landline with the same organisation can cut costs and the same principle applies to other household essentials; home and contents insurance are often discounted if the same provider is used.

Opting to manage your accounts online is another easy way to save a few pounds. You may also find different companies offer discounts for shopping and purchasing online, from car insurance to telephone bills so do your homework and cut costs simply by using the internet. Do your research when buying home appliances and only buy home appliances that have been certified as energy efficient, they may be a little more costly to buy in the long run they will prove to be cost effective.

When it comes to having fun, simply cutting down on takeaways and eating can significantly reduce the amount of money you are spending. Why not keep takeaways as a once a month treat and apply the same rule to eating out. Be careful that you have budgeted for these little treats so that the costs don't get out of hand.

Just because you are saving money doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy yourself. There are numerous budget airlines which offer inexpensive flights to European and worldwide destinations. Also try and book early, this way you can take advantage of some of the excellent deals available.

If you are trying to stay out of debt and save money then try to pay in cash whenever possible. Try not to use credit cards and keep just one credit card for emergencies only.

Have a budget in place and stick to it as closely as possible. Know what your monthly bills are, when they need to be paid, and how much income you take home each month. Make sure all your monthly bills get paid before you spend any money on items that you don't need.

Monitoring what you spend helps you to identify areas where you can save money and this ultimately helps to keep you debt free.
