Dentist suffers from negligence tooth ache

A dentist has been suspended due to new allegations, after he was allowed to keep working after telling a patient to take a potentially lethal drug overdose. The Colchester-based Dr is serving an 18-month interim suspension while the charges of professional negligence filed against him are being investigated. In 2006, the dentist was found liable for advising a patient to take 50mg of the drug diazepam before an appointment instead of the required 5mg. Shockingly however, he was still allowed to continue practising at the dental surgery, even though an expert panel found his actions constituted “gross professional negligence.” The dental council refused to reveal the nature of the fresh allegations brought against him, but stressed his innocence or guilt had yet to be discovered. One patient at the surgery commented: “When I found out what was happening, I was horrified. I really do feel his patients need to know about this and find out the reasons behind it. “I, for one, will never set foot in the surgery again and neither will any of my family,” they said. 15-year-old dies due to drug blunder In similar news, a 15-year-old boy died after he was given the wrong painkiller drug. The victim died after he visited his dentist for an appointment and was given a painkiller-laced patch, normally used to numb the chronic pain in cancer patients. The boy was found dead in his bed due to the fentanyl patch he was given, following a tooth extraction. The family’s injury lawyer, Chris Davis said: “I've already consulted with three experts across the country all of them say this is a very egregious case. First, he never should have been given (the fentanyl patch). Second, he was given the highest dose available.” In response, a Medical Director, Dr. David Fisher, admitted that hospital staff were negligent when in prescribing fentanyl to the patient. “We didn't have the system designed to prevent this. He can never bring back this child, and we can't fully understand to what level we have devastated his family. “We are deeply sorry for the family and will do everything in our power to ensure this never happens to another child at Children's,” he commented. According to the Federal Drug Administration, wrong prescription of the fentanyl patch has become a common problem across the country, during recent years leading to numerous reports of death and life-threatening injuries. The FDA has been warning since 2005 against misuse of the patch system, which was designed for use only by patients who have developed a tolerance for opium-derived painkillers such as morphine. In a recent public health advisory, the agency warned against prescribing the patch in situations identical to those the victim found himself in. The FDA stated the patch: “Continues to receive reports of death and life-threatening side effects in patients who use the fentanyl patch. “The reports indicate that doctors have inappropriately prescribed the fentanyl patch to patients for acute pain following surgery, for headaches, occasional or mild pain, and other indications for which a fentanyl patch should not be prescribed,” the experts warned.
