If you live in Phoenix or anywhere in Arizona and have been involved in a truck accident, Arizona truck accident attorney, Jerry Mayro, can help.
It is estimated that there are 5,000 people killed and nearly 150,000 people injured in trucking accidents on our nation's roadways each year. One in four passenger motor vehicle deaths in multiple-vehicle crashes involves a large truck, and large trucks are involved in multiple-vehicle fatal crashes twice as often as passenger vehicles. If you have been in an automobile accident, you know full well how devastating they can be. Truck accidents are usually much more serious than car accidents due to the massive size and weight of the truck.
When truck drivers get tired from the very demanding schedules they keep, the risk of crashes that result in injury or death increases. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) reports that approximately 750 people die each year due to fatigued commercial truck drivers. Approximately 20,000 are injured due to truck driver fatigue. Because of these high numbers, the FMCSA has rules like the ones below as to the number of hours a trucker can drive without a break. As to a property-carrying commercial motor vehicle, subject to exceptions and exemptions:
- A driver shall not drive more than 11 cumulative hours in the 14 hour period after starting on duty following 10 consecutive hours off-duty;
- A driver shall not drive after having been on duty 60 hours in any 7 consecutive day period (where the employing motor carrier operates commercial motor vehicles not every day of the week);
- Any 7 consecutive day period may end with the start of any 34 or more consecutive hour off-duty period.
