A Pet Life Jacket as a Safety Measure

A lot of dog breeders and owners may enjoy doing outdoor activities with their dogs. When you go out for an outdoor activity, you might want to take your pet on water. Some dog breeds such as Labradors and retrievers love water. Some pet owners take their dogs along with them when they are boating. If you are going for a boating with your dog, make sure that it’s not only you that has the safety gear such as life vest, make sure to provide also a life vest for your canine friend. Just like humans, not all dogs know how to swim. This is a common misconception, possibly because of the swim stroke which is referred as dog paddle. Some dogs such as pinchers, Doberman and boxers can have trouble in water. Other dogs do not like being in the water and will swim only if forced into it.

Just like in humans, ability of dog to swim can vary greatly. Gently introduce your dog on water. In doing this, there are factors to be considered such as the water condition. Too much movement of the boat may bring anxiety to your dog. A dog life jacket can provide a peace of mind and also as an extra safety measure. Life jacket will keep your dog afloat and avoid drowning. Pet might feel anxious and disoriented if they fall on the water.

Life jackets are important piece of equipment for the boater that is ever required by the law. To make your pet comfortable and getting used to wearing a life jacket, put it on them while still at home.  Make sure that the first boating experience for your dog would be pleasant. This would help them to learn to love the water.

In selecting life jacket for your dog, there are some guidelines to remember such as the size and weight of the dog for life jacket. Take also into considerations the materials of that is used. Never let your pet wearing it unattended, they might get entangled. Some life jackets for dogs do not come with buoyancy ratings, as do human life jacket.
