Becoming a First Time Cat Owner

When you become a cat owner for the first time, it seems like there is an endless amount of knowledge that you need to acquire in order to keep your cat fit and healthy throughout its life. You are a responsible person and want to ensure that your cat is going to have the best chance that it possibly can for living a long and healthy life.

First off there's all the injections to worry about. What does your very young kitten need to be immunized against and when? Next you need to consider how kitten friendly your house is when they come home. Are there any places that they could easily get stuck or any dangerous wires or objects they could try to play with. Do you have any other pets or young children whose impact you need to consider?

When should you be getting your kitten neutered? Is it cruel or is it the best thing to do? There are so many unwanted animals in the world, that surely you don't want to run the risk of creating a whole bunch more. Your neutered cat is also not going to be ruled by their hormones and will be free from all the behaviour problems associated with it.

Another tricky area is that of food and drink. What should you be feeding your young kitten and how often? You've heard so many horror stories about the pet food industry that you aren't sure what food is good kitten food. What types of food should you feed them (raw, soft, hard) and at what points in their lives is it best to do so? What liquids should kittens and cats be drinking? What human foods are especially bad for cats?

What should you be doing about preventing your kitten from picking up any fleas or other parasites? You know that you want to keep his treatment as natural as possible so to not expose him to any toxic chemicals unless it really can't be avoided, but you have no idea what constitutes an effective way to prevent fleas and ticks.

What toys is it good for a kitten to play with? What bedding will they like best? What about cat litter – how can I know which is the best one for my cat? What should when my kitten has an upset stomach or is off his food?

How old should he be before I let him outside for the first time? What precautions should I take to make sure that he is OK?

You're inundated with questions like these. We have the answers.
