Dog Obedience 101

Training your dog is one of the most criticalelements of ownership. There's nothing better than a well-trained dog that will listen to you and obey your every command. It has been proven by experts that happier dogs aren't pressured with being a dominant figure in a pack. Today's domesticated dogs have been tailoredthrough diverse breeding which is the product of their submissiveness. for that reason, your family pet is at its most comfortable when it looks at you as the alpha animal.

The initial step in training your dog is to start as early as possible. Puppies of course, are far easier to train. If your dog was adopted, it may take some patience on your part inorder to train them successfully. No matter if you've took a puppy or a mature dog into your household, you should start training it without delay. For example, if you do not want your dog to sit on the couch, don't allow it to from the very beginning. Many owners make a huge fuss of new dogs and permit behavior that they later find unacceptable.

Establishing a schedule with your dog is key and is highly recommended by experts. All in all, you should give food to and walk your dog approximately the same time daily. Dogs tend to respond well to organization and deviations from this can stress them.

Depending on the age and personality of your dog, you may find it beneficial to begin with small sessions of obedience training. It is important not to bombard your dog with too much information at once. Start purely with the basics, such as sit and stay.

Never shout at your dog. Most animals don't respond well to harsh actions. Now, if the dog does something that's considered unacceptable, of course, simply tell them "No" in a firm tone. If your dog does anything that you consider less destructive, simply ignore it and continue with training. Most dogs have a natural instinct to please their owners. So, praise your dog for all positive behavior and try not to react to anything they do that you would consider negative. This way they will start to comprehend what is expected of them.

It's important that when training your dog, it sees you as the boss. As pack animals, wolves (a domestic dog's ancestors) work as an efficient hierarchical group. Put simply, every pack must have a leader and, in this instance, it needs to be you. Some trainers and owners believe that 'alpha rolling', which mimics the behavior of dogs and wolves in the wild, is an effective way of asserting authority. Futhermore, simple measures tend to have a equally successful response. For example, during your dogs youth, it is recommended to take its bowl of food while it is eating. Taking away your dog's favorite toy could be an alternative. This only needs to be done very briefly, as most dogs will not react aggressively and the food, or toy, can be replaced with lots of praise. If your dog does bark or growl at you, overlook the unconstructive response and remove the food or toys more regularly until he, or she, understands that you are the boss.

Do your best to be patient and stay calm during your dog obedience journey. Remember, training your dog is one of the best opportunities for both of you to create a solid relationship. If you make the process fun and entertaining, your dog will most likely be willing to follow your every command.
