In spring, fleas and ticks usually do the most damage; therefore you should guard yourself using the common flea facts you should know that could help save your pets from a possible infestation. Of course, acquiring this knowledge would not only help you treat any form of infection acquired by your pet, but it also helps you get to the root of the problem so next time you can guard yourself against it.
Fleas are parasitic insects that feed off the blood of birds and mammals it infest. Some of our pet dogs and cats are allergic to the flea's saliva which could later on cause rashes or loss of fur. And while they thrive during warmer temperature, they are capable of reproducing all year-round, which means that we have to constantly guard our environment and pets against them.
Aside from causing itching or allergies to your pets, fleas may also become carriers of certain diseases like tapeworm or Lyme disease. Tapeworm is transmitted to an animal since fleas often carry with them tapeworm eggs that could stay in the animal's fur. So, when your pet starts itching or when they bite off the fur, they can ingest the tapeworm eggs that reside in the fur and cause tapeworm infection.
The life cycle of a flea can cause them to develop over a 2-week period or longer, depending on various outside factors like environment, humidity, temperature, and availability of food. As already stated above, they thrive best during hot weather so during summer months, you should be extra cautious of them.
One other reason why you cannot take the case of fleas lightly is that they spread very easily. Therefore, once a flea infestation has started, you have to find immediate relief. They are often distributed all over the body of your pet such as the lower back, base of tail, abdomen, flanks, and neck. However, in severe cases, flea infestation has managed to spread all over the animal's body. You cannot let this happen! So when your pet shows signs of itching or scratching, better take them to the vet right away for proper examination.
And as fleas spread very easily, when you have multiple pets at home and one gets infected with fleas, you have to assume that the others have fleas as well. Then, that's when you start looking for ways to treat and stop any further infestation. For home remedies, an effective way to get rid of fleas in your pet's body is by spraying them with insecticide. The insecticide is able to penetrate your pet's skin where fleas hide and are not normally seen. Once hit with the insecticide, the flea can die within a matter of minutes only.
Treating adult fleas can be done pretty quickly, however developing fleas are hard to control. Therefore, you have to continue applying your entire house with insecticide to completely eradicate any existing fleas within your house, as well as prevent those developing ones from continuing to reproduce.
Applying treatment on your pet alone works only when you were able to detect flea infestation while still at its early stage. But when it has been widely spread, it is best to have your entire house undergo complete flea control procedures. Fighting off fleas isn't really difficult as long as you educate yourself with these flea facts that you should know to get rid of them completely.

Caring For Ducks From 6 weeks to 4 months
By: Mary Louise | 05/01/2010After six weeks, the ducks can be fed entirely on locally produced feed--sweet potatoes, taro, banana, pumpkin, choko, etc. Anything good for people is good for ducks. The food must be cooked. To know how much feed to give to the ducks, follow this simple rule: If the ducks eat everything within half an hour and nothing is left, they are still hungry. Cook more next time. If after half an hour, the ducks start to wander away from the feed, and some of it is still left, they have had enough.
