Veterinarians assure us that any dog can aggressive or nonaggressive; this depends greatly on its environment and upbringing. Owners’ have a big input on how dog’s behavior is developed. Owners play and important part on the training, development and environment in which a dog is subject to. These tips will help assure that aggression is either stopped or deterred.
Leash and Muzzle- Unrestrained dogs can be a hazard in public. If your dog is placed in a strange environment with strange people, he may act out. Keeping a leash and muzzle on your dog in these situations, will prevent aggression and biting on the part of your dog.
Spay or Neuter Your Dog- Unaltered male dogs are more aggressive in nature than male dogs than have been fixed. Altered dogs lose much of their territorial aggression as well as territorial defensiveness.
Train and Praise – When your dog starts to chew and bite everything from your hands to your furniture. Redirect his energy and attention to something positive. Such as not chewing your hand, but chewing his toy. This requires a lot of patience on your part. It is a trial and error process; the more it is done the sooner your dog will learn it.
Early Onset of Socialization – The earlier you introduce your puppy to various situations, the better he will learn. Introducing your puppy to other dogs, people and environments is essential in deterring any aggressive behavior he may acquire.
Always remember that unexplained aggression or adverse behavior may be a sign of something more serious. You should consult a Veterinarian if you encounter this.
