When you initially begin your search to learn how to build a chicken coop, you will quickly realize that it can be one of the most puzzling undertakings confronting the new chicken farmer. There are lots of distinct variations, along with a myriad of elements that should be weighed prior to settling on a final blueprint. And that's only for the chicken coop plans not any of the other elements like material selections, building methods, or placement of the coop just to cite a few. Below you will learn three of the most crucial concepts that can aid you before beginning building
Chicken Coops Provide Shelter
The central use of a chicken coop is to provide protection to the chickens. Chickens should be kept warm, dry, and protected from the elements. Rain, snowfall, and winds can all be detrimental to the wellbeing of the chickens. This can result in decreased egg or meat output and unfit chickens. Not something you would want to deal with when you're first starting. Keep in mind that the chicken does not worry about the design of the chicken coop. It only wants it warm, dry, and comfortable. You on the other hand may want to have it look as nice as it can, and there's nothing faulty with that rationale. Numerous people have designed their chicken coops to take on the appearance of a child's playhouse so that it will fit in with the surroundings of their property, while others have constructed simple coops out of scrap timber and pallets. As long as the chicken's needs are fulfilled, it is unlimitedas to what you build. But as abudding chicken farmer, you'll in all probability be better served using commercially available plans that have already been tested
Security from Predatory Animals
While this certainly falls under the shelter and protection section above, it is so significant that it should be emphasized. Chickens are essentially defenseless creatures that should be totally shielded from predators. Chickens are especially susceptible to assaults from raccoons, coyotes, foxes, hawks, and even some hounds. Your chicken coop should be an impenetrable fortress for the chickens, offering them complete safety from any of these predatory animals. There isn't much sadder, more disappointing than finding out that your chickens have been ravaged by a predator. Keep them safe!
Clean Chickens are the Happiest Chickens
Not only is it true for humans, it's true for chickens too. You should design your chicken coop in order to provide good access for you to perform frequent cleanup. In order to supply an area where chickens are secure and happy, they require hygenic environments. This means that you'll need easy access so that you can replace their bedding material and tidy up after them on a regular basis. This is often the greatest plan detail that you will need to consider since its proper execution benefits you directly. If it's difficult to clear out the chicken coop, the less likely you are to do it, and in turn the the chickens could become less healthy. Keep them clean and their production will improve.
