Keeping your Dog Safe for Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner and this can be a scary time for your dog, not to mention a dangerous time. Here are a few tips to keep your pet safe during Halloween.

Keep those treats away from your pet. Not only is the chocolate a hazard but, the candy wrappers can be a choking hazard.

Keep in mind that you may find costumes and Halloween antics cute, however your dog my find them very frightening. If your dog is frightened by this keep him/her in a secure place in your home where they feel safe and secure.

Also Halloween produces a increase in lost and stolen pets. Be sure to keep your pet in a secure area and keep a watchful eye out. This is also a good time to make sure your dog’s tags are up to date. Make sure they have a proper collar for their tag. If your pet is micro chipped, make sure that information is up to date.

A pet can be easily annoyed or upset by doorbells. Keep them in a safe place away from the noise. Leaving a TV or radio on low may also help with this situation.

Everyone loves jack-o-laterns, however keep in mind a lighted candle can be very dangerous to your pet. Keep them safely away from your pet.

Do not take your pet treat or treating with you. They may be more difficult to handle due to all the activity or even could get lose and runaway.

Keep in mind that you may enjoy spider web decorations, streamers, etc., however these all provide a chewing hazard to your pet.

Always look before opening a door just in case your dog is close by, they may dash out of your home. Ig you have a baby gate you might possibly us that to stop your pet from getting close to the door.
