It is possible to make your own chicken coop and provide somewhere where your flock of chickens can lay in comfort and be kept safe at night from predators. When you make your own chicken coop, it needs to have certain basics. You will need to incorporate some kind of nest boxes, where the chickens will lay. Your chickens will also need access to food and water when they are confined to the coop overnight. You can buy expensive drinks bottles and feeders, but with a little thought something like an ice cream tub is a perfectly good food container.
The other main thing to consider if you have to make your own chicken coop is where it needs to go. Firstly, it should ideally be where it gets maximum sunlight. Secondly, security is important. With urban foxes and other predators common the coop needs surrouding by fencing that is dug deep into the ground. Predators are very good at squeezing under fences through seemingly impossible gaps.
