Need Dog Housebreaking Tips?

Are you bringing a new puppy home and are you in need of some dog housebreaking tips? You are not alone. Thousands of people will bring a new puppy into their home for the first time. Many will only have a general idea of how to house break their new dog and some may not have a clue. Luckily housebreaking a dog is one of the easiest training tasks you will have. Before you bring your new dog home make sure you have dog dishes, a leash, a collar, food and a crate big enough for your dog when he is full grown. It would also be a good idea to purchase an online dog training course. You will find it very useful for all your dog training.

Dog Housebreaking Tips #1 - When you first bring your dog home he should be between eight and twelve weeks of age. He will not know any house rules so you will have to watch him very closely. If you see him sniffing the floor it is probably time to take him outside. Designate an area where it is ok for him to relieve himself and use a verbal command you are comfortable with. I use "Do Your Job". When he does it properly praise him and give him a treat. After a time he will understand what is to be done.

Dog Housebreaking Tips #2 -Your dog will have accidents. Accept it and the training will be less frustrating for both you and your dog. He you did not see him do just clean it up. There is not reason to scold him as he will not understand why you are mad at him. If you catch him the act scold him and then immediately take him out to his designated area. If he then relieves himself give him praise and a treat.

Dog Housebreaking Tips #3 - I know it is impossible to watch your dog all the time. You have to sleep and you probably have to work. This is where the crate comes in. When you must leave him alone he should be put in the crate. This is not cruel and your dog will not resent you for it. In fact within a very short period of time your dog will feel very secure inside his cage when you are gone. The crate will help you with your house training because dogs do not like to go where they sleep. The crate helps them to learn bladder control. Again, there will be accidents and again do not scold him.

Be patient it will take from three to six months before he is fully housebroken and has learned to control his bladder sufficiently to avoid accidents but if you are consistent he will learn and never forget.
