Sammi and Stuart's Dog Training Treats and Cookies Recipe

When my two puppies, Sammi and Stuart, where young, I needed small, bite-sized treats to give to them for good behavior. This recipe was developed to make such treats. It is a very easy recipe and the dogs seem to love the treats.

Later, the same recipe was used to make larger cookies. I make up a batch of the treats or cookies and store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container. This recipe is by a regular person - not a veterinarian or nutritionist - but by someone who wants to feed their dogs as well as they feed themselves and their family.

2-1/2 c whole wheat flour

1/2 c dry powdered milk

1 stick margarine

1 egg

1/2 c water (or what is necessary to pull the batter together)

chicken (or beef) bouillon cube

1 t honey (optional)

1. Dissolve the bouillon cube in about 1/2 c water (microwave is the easiest and fastest method).

2. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients. The batter should be the consistency of cookie dough. If the batter is a bit soupy or sticky, add more flour. If the batter is dry, add more water.

3. Form the batter into 1/4" balls (for treats) or 3/4" balls (for cookies) and place on an un-greased baking sheet.

4. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Check at 20 minutes to make sure the cookies are not burning.

5. Let treats/cookies cool and store in an airtight container (zip-type bag) in the refrigerator.

I have recently given a home to a dog called Cassie. She was living in a local animal sanctuary and as soon as I saw her I knew that she was the dog for me and my family. Health Information for My Pit Bull

By: Miquel Travis | 17/12/2009
Let's face it, we love our pets. Sometimes that love can lead pet owners to pamper their pets just a little too much when it comes to food and treats. This over indulgence has the same effects on our pets as it does on us when we over eat or snack a little too often, we get fat. If you add in not getting enough
