The Joys of Mixed Breed Dogs

Mixed breed dogs have been and are still a very popular breed today. A mixed breed dog is a dog that has characteristics of two or more types of breeds, as apposed to purebred, where they are known to be descended from specific ancestors.  A ‘mutt” just refers to a dog of unknown descent.  These dogs are truly a unique kind of dog that has individual personalities, markings and qualities of their own. Due to the lack of breed pureness and knowledge of ancestral genes, it may be difficult to determine its size, coat and temperament, but it makes up for in loyal companionship.   Besides the unconditional devotion an owner gets from his dog, is a lifetime of friendship. Mutts or mixed breeds are generally sweet-tempered, courageous and loyal family dogs.

Personally speaking, I can attest to the above statement. This Summer I was blessed with an incredible little dog, that I named OREO he is black and white with a white tip on his tail. As I was jogging one early morning down my block, I heard the patter of paws following behind me. Just one look into those dark brown “puppy-dog” eyes and I could not resist falling in love with him. I soon learned that Oreo had a severe case of mange.  I began treating him until he was cured. As he got better, our bond grew bigger. Oreo is a true “mutt” with a heart if gold.  Oreo today is a healthy happy young dog. His warm personality wins the hearts of everyone that comes to our home.
