Things You Need to Know About Dog Fences

Dog fence is not only a containment system but a very important device to protect your dog against dangerous animals. It also keeps your dog within a specific boundary which keeps him safe all the time.

For those who want to make their house organized, dog fence is also a great option to prevent your canine pet from damaging the furniture and fragile objects inside your house or installation arts in your backyard.

In choosing a fence for your dog, however, you need to consider several things. It is of course a must that you assess your budget and the size of your backyard or garden. You also need to know the functions of a certain type of dog fence to determine if it’s suitable for your dog’s size and breed.

Nowadays, there is a wide variety of dog fences being sold in the market. Some are made of steel, wood and plastic, while others are electronic, battery-operated and wireless already. But whichever type of dog fence you choose, just make sure that it is safe and humane enough for your dog. Here are some important things you need to know about the different types of dog fence.

Dog fences that are made of wood and chain links are said to be the most humane type of fence. Though it’s a bit expensive and tedious to install, this traditional type of fence can stand the test of time and weather. It is long lasting and very reliable to keep your dog safe in the yard. Just make sure that when you install such fences, there are no gaps because your dog, especially if he is small, can escape from the even the littlest fence gap.

If you want a more high-tech fence, opt for wireless fences. A wireless dog fence makes use of transmitter that sends out signals to your dog to keep him within a desired area.

Invisible dog fence, also known as underground fence, is another good alternative. Unlike the traditional wooden fence, an invisible fence is easy to set up. What only need to be done is install a cable in the ground within the yard’s perimeter. It is called invisible fence because there is really no fence being built. Usually, flags are the only things erected while the cable is attached to a transmitter that gives out signals to the collar of your dog.

These electronic fences are more advisable to bigger dogs. There have been reports that small dogs have been injured due to the low voltage of electric shock from invisible and wireless dog fences. So if you are worried about slightly hurting your dog and have the necessary budget, better stick with the traditional wood and chain link fences.
