Housebreaking you puppy is a process that takes a lot of love, understanding, and patience. The earlier you teach your puppy, the quicker he learns. Housebreaking your puppy will prevent accidents inside the house, such as urinating on the floor or defecating inside of your house. An important factor to keep in mind is that puppies love to feel praise. Praise your puppy when he does something right.
Inside housebreaking tips –
Place down papers or house-training pads, encouraging your dog to use them. The house-training pads are very useful because they are pre-treated with a scent t hat attracts dog to them. When your dog starts sniffing around the floor, this signals that he has to “go”. At this point you would pick your dog up and take him directly to the papers or house-training pads. As time go by and your dog associates going to the bathroom on the papers, then you can start moving the papers closer and closer outside your home.
Crate training tips-
Crates are used also as a house training method. The crates are used more as a deterrent rather than a training tool. Make sure you purchase a crate that your dog will be comfortable in. Bladder control at a very early age is very common in puppies. A crate is used to place the dog in, when unattended. Dogs like cats will not soil the place they like to rest in. so with that in mind, when you cannot keep an eye of your dog, put him in a crate. This is a good method when you have to take a quick trip to the grocery store. The crate will also help a dog with controlling his urges to go.
Outside housebreaking tips:
The best way for your dog to go potty is to go outside. Keep in mind that dogs relieve themselves in the morning and after every meal thereafter. Housebreaking your dog is all about timing and routine. Repetition is an essential factor in your housebreaking. Bring your dog to the same location outside at about the same time everyday. Do this again and again remembering to praise him for a job well done. Your pet will learn this scheduled routine and will not deviate from it.
