There are some dog and puppy breeds that are considered to be quite popular in the UK. The Labrador retriever comes in at the number one spot as being the UK?s most popular breed of dog. These dogs are known for their loyalty to their owners and make wonderful pets. The Labrador retriever is a solid, muscular dog. It is a bit longer than it is tall, and has a short, easy to care for, water-resistant coat. This breed of dog is very gentle, family ? friendly, and intelligent. It is little wonder that UK pet owners are eager to make this dog a part of their homes.

The next most popular dog on the list of UK pets is the Cocker Spaniel. Known as a gun dog, this adorable breed is quite sturdy and compact. It is also one of the more intelligent breeds of dog. They can be of stubborn temperament but are trained easily, making them an excellent family pet. Often, they will choose one person in the family to bond most closely to. They are also very loyal, affectionate, optimistic, and adaptable. The Cocker Spaniel fits in quite well with the typical UK family.

The English Springer Spaniel is also a favorite breed of dog in the UK. As easy going as this dog is, it is surprising that it comes in 3rd on the list of popular UK pet dogs. It is another gun dog, and has traditionally been trained to find and retrieve game for hunters. However, it is also a great family pet. The Springer is friendly, loves to please, learns quickly, and obeys willingly. It is also affectionate and good with both children as well as other family pets that may be present.

Other dog breeds that UK families find make perfect pets include the Golden Retriever, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Boxer, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, the Border Terrier, and the West Highland White Terrier. In addition to these favorites, there are breeds being developed that are said to be hypoallergenic. These fit in quite nicely with families who may have members with allergies to dogs.

Every year more UK families choose to add a special dog as a pet. The choices are many and varied now, but in the years to come, there will be even more breeds to choose from. These will be very happy and much loved pets by their UK owners, making them some of the luckiest dogs in the world.
