Territorial Imperatives

Anyone who has watched an animal TV show learns quickly that they are territorial. Or, you can have a dog as a pet an watch them stake out their territory everywhere they smell urine from another animal. But guess what! We humans are some of the most territorial beings on the planet. And guess who the worst ones are?

Answer- RELIGIOUS people!

Specifically, a territory is a pattern of boundaries imposed on something or someone, by individual decision or group agreement. Denominations and religions decide who is IN and who is OUT! If you confess thus-n-such in a certain way, then you are IN! If you don't do things according to the LAWS that a certain group (can you say Christians- of whatever flavor) sets as their standards , creeds, or by-laws, you're OUTTA HERE!

A friend of mine with a great heart and a serving spirit was turned down for a job because he didn't buy in to the 100+ "beliefs" that they held more important than a "serving heart". What a shame! Commanding that anyone who does not confess a certain person's name (can you say JAY-ZUS?) in a certain way is another mode of territorial impertivers.

There are all kinds of territories: physical territory (the physical body, real and personal property); social territory (family, intimates, clan, tribe, peer group, club, associations, other social, cultural or religious groupings); and psychic territory (thoughts, opinions, theories, philosophies, plans, purposes, dreams, memories, time), to name a few.

It's just simply EGO!

When you really look at the truth of the matter, you quickly realize that your idea of SELF is just your brain's illusion of separatness. We are ALL ONE. There is nothing separate from God as Romans 8 reminds us, "What can separate us...?"

Question. What territories are operational in your life- NOW?
