When She Melted

When She Melted

“I’m melting!” she said as she flattened to the ground.  We all sat there in silence as the Wicked Witch melted, along with our fear of one of the biggest bullies the media had ever presented to children since the legend of the Red Guy with the Pitchfork  had clouded our dreams with horror.

But, times have changed.

Now, we’re supposed to understand her.  Maybe even feel sorry for her.

I don’t.

There seems to be a new trend in the media.  We’re supposed to pity the bullies when they suffer.

I don’t.

Please don’t misunderstand me.  It’s not that I am necessarily gleeful when I see the suffering of the bad guys.  But, I’m certainly not going to pity them.

Or, try to understand their position.

There is a new movement in this country, which isn’t necessarily a religion.  I suppose it’s a philosophy, of sorts.  It says that no one should be held responsible for their actions, because everyone is a product of their environment.  I recall this particular group of individuals didn’t want the Oklahoma City Bomber to be executed.

They said it was wrong to remove him from society.  They said we should love him.  Forgive him.

Give him unconditional love, they said.

I suppose this type of philosophy serves as a balance, perhaps, to the opposing activity which displays brutal barbarianism.

Murder.

Mayhem.

I hope our society balances quickly.  I am certainly against primitive behavior, but can’t agree with the love, and the light agenda, either.

But, back to that nasty ole’ witch.  Personally, I was glad she was gone.

And, I still am…

Interesting Side Note: I had the honor of meeting the best friend of Margaret Hamilton, who portrayed the Wicked Witch of the West.  In her defense, it was stated that this woman was one of the kindest people she had ever met in her life…)

Unexplained Phenomena and Our Brain's Ability to Hide Behind Reason

By: Addison Prescot | 02/12/2009
One hundred years ago if I were to start explaining to people that soon there would be cell phones and people could talk to each other from thousands of miles away, I would have been lucky not to have been locked up. New Ideas must be presented in such a fashion as to not overwhelm the brain. This is why much of what we now view as 'unexplained phenomena' is actually just what I like to call future facts.

The Smell of Stone

By: Teresa Silverthorn | 07/11/2009 | Metaphysics
I work for world travelers. They fly to far away places, taste exotic foods, and gather treasures from all over the planet. If I’m very lucky, I get to see them again when they return. And, if I’m extremely fortunate, they bring me the one thing I had asked for, before they left. A rock.

By Her Word

By: Teresa Silverthorn | 05/11/2009 | Philosophy
“A fairy lives in my yard,” she said with eyes that were intense. “What?” I said without even thinking. “A fairy. It’s been living there for awhile. I even built a house for it,” she said, looking me straight in the eye.
