Susan Slobac is an avid photographer.Susan believes a picture frame is more than just fashion; it's a safeguard for something you love. In this article Susan talks about archival photo boxes.
If your photo storage currently consists of packets and packets of film envelopes with the event photographed scrawled on the outside of the packets, you are not alone. Photo organization is a project that many people put off. There is, however, a simple way to both organize and store your photographs, and that is by using photo boxes.
Photo storage boxes also come in different sizes, and they are available with archival qualities that will help to preserve you favorite photos for many years to come. No matter the size of your prized photographs, there is a photo storage box that will meet your needs. Ranging in size from eight by ten inches all the way up to twenty-two by thirty inches, photo boxes of quality are lined with acid-free white material.
The boxes are shallow, about three inches deep, but this allows you ample room to easily sort your photographs in different ways. You could choose several photo boxes and use them to sort your photos by the year taken. Another way to sort with photo boxes is to separate the pictures by subject matter, with a box for each different subject.
Photographs can also be sorted into individual photo boxes by the name of each photographer. Another aspect of a good, sturdy storage box that you will want to look for is reinforcing in the corners. If you have several photo storage box that you will be stacking, if they are not reinforced, you stand a good chance of the bottom box getting smashed by the weight of the other boxes, and thus damaging the artwork within them. Metal corners can make sure that the boxes will not succumb to that fate, and it make them easier to stack as well. Archival photo storage is also another attractive feature that you will find in better photo boxes. Quality photo storage utilizes acid-free materials. This is important, because acids can damage the surface of a photograph very easily. Ultra-violet light and pollution that is carried on the air can all do damage to photos, by discoloring and yellowing the surface of the picture. In order to avoid this, many photographers ensure that their photo storage solutions are constructed from acid-free materials, in order to prolong the beauty of their artwork. Boxes appropriate for use as archival photo storage can also serve other uses. Your fine paintings, books, magazines, scrapbooks, and other types of artwork can all be safely stored in archival quality boxes. You can also utilize other storage products, such as acid-free tissue, to separate your photos and keep them looking great.
