The Macrolane Method
There is a far more advanced treatment than the traditional methods of Liposuction. It can be used on a variety of different areas and it is suitable for use on both men and women. The Macrolane procedure can be performed on calves, buttocks, pectorals/breasts and even on areas that have been damaged by other surgery. Ironically, it is often used to repair parts of the body that are scarred after undergoing Liposuction. Other uses include breast enlargement and the filling-out of flat or sagging buttocks. In a single treatment it can give noticeable results. When the method is used for breast enlargement it will create no problems during Mammograms unlike silicone implants.
Macrolane makes traditional Liposuction look a little old-fashioned as it only requires the use of a local anaesthetic. There is also very little danger of any scarring being involved. Anyone who has read about or undergone Liposuction will know that this is a big step forward in the world of cosmetic surgery. The operation itself will normally only take between thirty and ninety minutes to perform depending on exactly what is being done and to which area. It is also well known for having a very fast recovery time.
The special ingredient that Macrolane uses is a substance called NASHA gel. This stands for ‘Stabilised Non-Animal Hyaluronic Acid’. The amount that is needed, again, depends on what is being done in the operation. NASHA gel is made from Hyaluronic Acid which is a natural substance that our bodies create to maintain skin turgor. As Macrolane uses Hyaluronic Acid (HA) it is about the closest that you are going to get to a ‘natural’ form of cosmetic surgery.
Over the last decade or so, NASHA gel has been used in a great deal of facial procedures. There have been ongoing trials on the gel dating back to 2002 but no long-term issues have been found as yet. There is only a very small chance of a patient experiencing any type of allergic reaction to NASHA gel. More than 9 million procedures have been performed in over seventy different countries up to the time of writing.
When having the Macrolane treatment, the patient is given an injection of ‘NASHA’ gel that is usually in the region of 200ml. This will normally last for around a year or so before it is necessary to have top-up doses of about 100ml. It is then slightly longer before another injection is needed (usually about eighteen months). The space between these top-ups will gradually increase.
When a woman undergoes the procedure for breast enlargement they will feel firmer and look bigger straight away. It will take around a week before her breasts soften a little and begin to feel more natural. While the operation is taking place, it is quite common for the surgeon to ask the patient if she is happy with the size and shape. Macrolane normally only increases the breasts by one cup size but more gel can then be added if necessary.
